Not quite Europe, and not quite Asia, Azerbaijan is a nation of contrasts lending to an ever-fascinating travel experience.

A chaotic blend of East and West can leave visitors to this often overlooked country a little confused as to where they are - Soviet buildings but Arabic food and Turkish coffee, drunk like the Iranians, yet paired with Russian vodka are to name but a few of the contrasts you will encounter. Its position on the Silk Road is to thank for this amalgamation of cultures with each traveller, and empire, passing through bringing something of their home with them.

The culture isn't the only aspect of Azerbaijan that is unusually diverse. With nine distinct climate zones, the landscapes and terrain of the country are exceptionally varied too. Rugged mountains and mud volcanoes give way to expansive plateaus and picturesque lowlands and beautiful beaches line the shores. Bustling, cosmopolitan cities, like the capital Baku, are thrown into the mix to create a destination that is unlikely to stay under the radar for long.
