Bosnia-Herzegovina has been through more than most European countries in recent years, so those wishing to experience a country that is restoring what made it great while at the same time confidently re-inventing itself , will find a trip here a true eye-opener. The revitalised charms of Mostar evoke the Bosnia-Herzegovina of old, long before bloody conflict gripped the region, while up-and-coming Sarajevo is a buzzing testament to ethnic diversity and social regeneration.

Once associated with the horrors of war, Bosnia-Herzegovina is firmly back on the tourist trail with visitors drawn by dramatic alpine scenery, thundering rivers, ancient towns, hidden monasteries, medieval fortresses and isolated villages.

In a country where Byzantine and Ottoman civilisations meet Roman and Austro-Hungarian influences you can find mosques, synagogues, Orthodox and Catholic cathedrals within walking distance of each other.

Wander along the narrow cobbled streets of the Old Town (Bascarsija) in Sarajevo and join the locals for a strong Turkish coffee. Holidays to Bosnia-Herzegovina wouldn't be complete without a visit to the much-filmed Mostar where divers leap off its rebuilt landmark bridge over the Neretva River.

Join the pilgrims flocking to Medjugorge and the site where an apparition of the Virgin Mary appeared. Step back in time in sleepy Kraljeva Sutjeska,  probe the catacombs at Jajce, used by the locals during the recent war, hike along trails through the glorious Dinaric Alps and stumble across remote villages and monasteries on Bjelasnica Mountain where the way of life has changed little for its residents.

Regent Holidays can book Sarajevo city breaks as well as individual tailor-made itineraries, group tours and fly-drive holidays to Bosnia-Herzegovina.
