Georgia has many delicious traditional foods, my favourite being Khachapuri Imeruli. This cheese filled bread hails from the Imereti region, but can be found in most parts of the country - it is a filling snack that can enjoyed as a basic and inexpensive meal in itself, and is often best experienced in a basic city café washed down with local wine.

A city break in Georgia is the perfect way to discover this stunning yet little-visited corner of the globe where the continents of Europe and Asia meet.

With a rich and diverse history, Georgia is a country of contrasts built upon an eclectic mixture of cultures, beliefs and architecture. Borne out of this is a strong sense of individuality; mirrored in its truly unique brands of folklore, art, theatre music and dance that delight the vivacious Georgian people and visitors alike.

City breaks in Georgia typically centre on the capital of Tbilisi. The cultural, economical and social heart of the country, Tbilisi is a lively and progressive city ever more distancing itself from the restrictive Soviet rule it broke free from in the 1990s.

An exciting and ever increasing range of restaurants, hotels, cafés and bars are cropping up on the winding, elegant tree-lined streets, while the cobbled maze of the Old Town with its distinctive balconies and vine draped courtyards retains a fascinating and historical charm.

Aside from soaking up the pleasant, Mediterranean atmosphere that envelops Tbilisi, there is no shortage of captivating museums, historical buildings and cultural events to discover such as the Paliashvili Opera House and multitude of pretty churches, synagogues and mosques. End the day with a visit to Abanotubani, the bath district, where you can share a relaxing sulphur bath with the convivial and sociable locals.
