Return to the airport and fly across to Sandakan. Transfer by boat along the Kinabatangan River delta - search for proboscis monkeys, birds and reptiles along the way. Check into the Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge and enjoy lunch. Late afternoon embark on a further river cruise in search of wildlife. (B,L,D)
Enjoy an early morning boat trip to Ox Bow Lake in search of wildlife and trek the riverine forest along the lake before returning to the lodge for breakfast. In the afternoon those who wish can visit Gomantong Caves, the largest birds nest cave in Sabah, famous for the swiftlets and their edible nests (payable locally, please speak to the guide). Drive to Sepilok and check in to MY Nature Resort. Drive to Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre where captive orangutans are cared for before being reintroduced into the wild. Observe the orangutans at their feeding stations in the rainforest and at the nursery (if open). Continue to visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre which rescues captured sun bears and is involved in their conservation, welfare, rehabilitation and education. Enjoy lunch near Sepilok. Begin the three hour climb by torchlight to the summit of Mount Kinabalu at around 2am, arriving in time to enjoy an incredible sunrise. Descend and transfer to the park's restaurant for lunch. Collect your climbing certificate and drive to Kota Kinabalu to take the resort speedboat across to Gayana Marine Resort to spend the afternoon at leisure. (B,L)
