During the summer South Greenland fully lives up to its Danish name of “Green Land”, as this is the most fertile part of the country. In fact most of the flora of Greenland grows in this particular region as the winter climate is relatively mild and summer temperatures can even reach a positively tropical 18°C. This was the main reason why Erik the Red chose to live in South Greenland around 985 AD, after he was outlawed from Iceland so South Greenland is very rich in Viking ruins and culture. Sheep farming and agriculture play a very important part in South Greenland’s industry.
