Ilulissat is one of the most popular places to visit in Greenland, as it is from this arctic town of 4,600 inhabitants, that travellers can see giant icebergs. Ilulissat is beautifully located beside one of the most productive glaciers in the world, at the mouth of a 40km ice fjord filled with gigantic icebergs as tall as skyscrapers with only one tenth of their volume visible above the water. With ear-splitting roars they are constantly calving and making giant waves as they crash into the sea. In 2004, Ilulissat Ice Fjord was included on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites and you can view these incredible sights by either boat or helicopter.
