Sandoy is one of the least spoiled of the Faroes Islands, and known as the "Saga Island" due to the preponderance of myths and legends that surround it. Leaving from Torshavn it is a short drive to the harbour at Gamlaerett to board the ferry across to Sandoy. Less mountainous than many of the other islands there are still bird cliffs where nesting puffins can be found. The village of Husavik is home to the remains of 'Heimi a Gardi', said to have once been home to the legendary Gudrun Sjurdardottir of Bergen who was said to be the richest woman in the Faroes, and the road between Husavik and Dalur promises dramatic views as the road clings to the cliff edge.
